An account transcript does not show a payoff amount, but it does detail tax account transactions, including previous payments applied and the running balance, if applicable. Certain transcripts list the tax return line items for the tax year chosen, according to the IRS.

To order an account transcript, click on the Get a Tax Transcript by Mail link located under the Tools heading on the home page, advises the IRS. Click the Get Transcript by Mail link located in the center of the Get Transcript Web page. Enter the taxpayer's Social Security number or Individual Tax Identification Number, date of birth, and street address and ZIP code listed on the most-recent tax return. Click Continue.

On the next Web page, select Account Transcript of Return Transcript from the drop-down menu under the Type of Transcript heading, notes the IRS. Choose the desired tax year, and click Continue.

Additional transcripts are available by clicking the Request a Different Transcript link on the confirmation Web page. Mailed transcripts take up to 10 days to receive, states the IRS.
