When visiting the IRS website, users should click "Refunds" at the top of the home page. This takes users to the "where's my refund" section provided by the IRS. After clicking "refunds" users will be taken to a page that provides information about the service. The "where's my refund" button will then take users to the page where information should be entered.
After accessing the "where's my refund" page, users will need to enter their social security number, the filing status and the amount of their refund. After clicking enter, the refund status will appear.
Users can also call 1-800-829-1954 for free to access refund information according to the US Tax Center. The phone is also located at IRS.com.
After calling, there will be prompts instructing users how to use the service and what information to enter . When e-filing, the IRS instructs users to wait around 72 hours after filing to check the status.
