Used mobile homes are sold at auction across the country, both in local auctions and online auctions through platforms such as eBay. Prices for these used mobile homes can start well below the actual value of the mobile home, making it a better investment than buying one that's brand new.
The government auctions off mobile homes when they are no longer needed to house soldiers and victims of major disasters. Camp Atterbury, in Indiana, auctioned off over 200 mobile homes in 2014, and some had a starting bid of only $25. FEMA also sells off some of the trailers used to house people after a disaster because it's often more cost efficient to sell the trailers than to store or recommission them.
