The Salvation Army and Goodwill Industries are two national charities that pick up donations from individual homes. Not every Goodwill chapter offers this service, so the charity advises people to call their local chapters.
DonationTown helps people find charities in their areas that offer home pickup. By clicking the Schedule a Charity Donation Pick-up link on the home page and then entering the home ZIP code, an individual can see a list of area charities that offer this service. The individual then enters his contact information and selects the charity to which he wishes to give. Depending on the charity, a donor can even schedule the pick-up at Donationtown.org.
Each charity has a list of items it is willing to pick up from a home. Typically most charities accept clothing and small household items. Before scheduling the pickup, the donor should first make sure the charity accepts his particular items.
