Other career paths can include running franchises for salon companies, selling goods at trade shows and working in the development of new kinds of makeup.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average salary for cosmetologists is $27,940 as of 2015. The number of jobs for barbers and hair stylists is projected to grow by 13 percent from 2012 to 2022. The employment rates for manicurists and pedicurists is projected to have similar growth patterns, growing approximately 16 percent between 2012 and 2022.
