CareCredit dental is a credit card providing flexible financing for dental treatment and procedures, and for co-pays or deductibles not covered by insurance, according to the company website. CareCredit requires credit approval and a formal agreement with participating dentists.
When applying, applicants must provide date of birth, Social Security number and driver's license, and must complete a credit application either online or by telephone, explains CareCredit.
The company provides a range of financing options, but the individual dentist or medical practitioner determines which of these options is available to its patients. Financing incentives include no interest for accounts that are paid in full during a specific time period, and reduced interest rates for large purchases, notes CareCredit. As of 2015, the initial interest rate for new cardholders is 26.99 percent, although CareCredit also advertises a promotional rate of 14.90 percent with fixed monthly payments for qualifying purchases.
The American Dental Association, which recommends CareCredit to its members, states that more than 100,000 dental practices in the United States accept CareCredit payments, and more than 20 million dental and other health care patients have used CareCredit since the mid-1980s. CareCredit maintains an online directory of participating dental, medical and veterinary practices.
