All companies that are public companies must file financial information through the Securities and Exchange Commission. Regular financial reports along with a quarterly report and a number of other forms that contain detailed financial information are required to be filed with the SEC. The reports are filed through the system known as Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis and Retrieval system, or EDGAR.
Public companies are defined as those that trade their company's securities on the public market and those that disclose certain financial and business information to the public on a regular basis. A company is required to publicly report if it sell its securities in a public setting, it voluntarily registers with the SEC, or it allows its investor base to grow to a certain size, which automatically triggers the obligation to publicly report its financial information.Learn more about Corporations
