The IRS offers the VITA, or Volunteer Income Tax Assistance, program to help people who make $53,000 or less, are disabled or elderly, or who have limited grasp of the English language. These volunteers help individuals prepare and file forms and also offer free electronic filing in some situations. As of March 2015, appointments with VITA can be set by calling 1-800-906-9887 or by visiting the official IRS website, clicking the Help & Resources tab at the top of the main page, and then selecting "Get free tax preparation help" under the Filing menu. On the following web page, select the Find a VITA or TCE Site Near You tab to locate the nearest office.
