UPS packages cannot be tracked by address or name. As of 2015, Packages can be tracked using tracking numbers, reference numbers and UPS InfoNotice numbers. Tracking can be done via the UPS website, email or text messaging.
UPS automatically assigns tracking numbers to every shipment it processes, and a shipper can create a reference number for each shipment sent. UPS also assigns InfoNotice numbers to packages for unsuccessful delivery attempts. A package's status can be checked using these numbers and the UPS Web or email tool. UPS also offers automatic updates via email or text messaging, and a shipper can track a package through a UPS account online.
