Founded in 1917, the Direct Marketing Association consists of most of the leading direct marketing companies in the United States. The DMAchoice online tool is an enhancement of the Mail Preference Service the association initiated in 1971. The tool breaks direct mail into the four categories of credit offers, catalogs, magazine offers and other mail offers. Once consumers create an account, they can stop receiving mail from entire categories or go through the lists and block unwanted mail one company at a time. The changes take up to 90 days to take effect and once initiated, they last for at least three years.
Although companies consumers may have bought items from, donated to or subscribed to in the past may be on the DMAchoice tool, consumers must contact them directly to be removed from their mailing lists. Consumers should also contact companies that are not members of DMA directly and report them to DMA if they take longer than 90 days to honor mail stop requests. Consumers can manage up to five name and address variations with one DMAchoice account.Learn more about Mail & Shipping
