Wrestlers can earn college scholarships, although the numbers are very limited so scholarships given are almost always partial. College wrestling programs do not have large recruiting budgets, so wrestlers wanting to wrestle in college are encouraged to reach out to programs they are interested in.
Division I programs are allowed to give 9.9 scholarships, Division II schools can give 9, NAIA schools can give 8 and junior college programs can give up to 16. Most wrestling rosters, however, have between 20 and 30 wrestlers, so the scholarships given are almost always partial. If someone wishes to wrestle in college, he is likely to have to pay for at least a portion of his own tuition even with a wrestling scholarship.
