Many prepaid card services like Visa allow the user to reload the card online. Visa, as well as other card retailers like netSpend, also offers the option to reload in person from the location of purchase or over the phone.
Card owners need to activate the prepaid card before any money can be added to the prepaid account. A spending limit is usually put on the prepaid card, and the reload amount cannot exceed that limit. Visa allows its users to link the debit card to other areas of value, such as tax refunds, child support, direct deposits and even Social Security payments.
