The application is divided into four steps and also requires prospective members to specify the services for which they are applying, fund their accounts and confirm the information they have provided. As of 2015, memberships automatically come with a savings account that are activated after Bellco receives and processes an initial $25 deposit, as well as a $5 membership fee. Once accepted, members may then open additional checking and certificate accounts, although these are subject to approval.

According to the Bellco website, applicants must either live or work in select Colorado locations, have a family member who is already a Bellco account holder, work for a company that is a part of the Bellco Select Employee Group or be a member of the Consumers United Association to be eligible for membership.
