To make a fabric softener dispenser, you need a straight pin, a zip-sealed plastic bag and fabric softener. It is important for fabric softener to be released at the appropriate time during the wash cycle, but it can be difficult to remember to add it to the rinse cycle at the right time. A dispenser automatically releases the softener at the right time during the wash, eliminating the need to time the process carefully to add it yourself.
- Gather the necessary supplies
To make a dispenser, you need a straight pin or thumbtack, a sandwich- or quart-sized plastic bag with a zip seal, and fabric softener.
- Load the washing machine with dirty laundry
Fill the washer with dirty clothes, and add laundry detergent. Start the wash cycle to fill the machine with water.
- Poke holes in the zippered bag
Using either a straight pin or a thumbtack, poke several holes in the plastic zip bag. Shorter wash cycles need more holes to allow enough of the softener to drain out of the bag at the proper time.
- Add fabric softener to the plastic bag
While holding the bag with holes over the washing machine or a nearby sink, pour the recommended amount of fabric softener into the bag. Then, close the zip seal.
- Place the filled bag dispenser in the washing machine
Drop the plastic bag filled with fabric softener into the washing machine full of dirty clothes, and close the lid. The wash cycle continues the process of cleaning your clothes while the fabric softener slowly seeps out of the bag during the cycle.
