The American Bankers Association routing number for a financial institution is typically available on that institution's website. Some financial institutions may require users to log in to their online account before gaining access to routing number information.
An ABA code is assigned to each bank, credit union or savings and loan that has a federal or state charter and is eligible to have an account at a Federal Reserve Bank. Financial institutions may have multiple routing numbers assigned for different types of transactions. The routing number identifies which financial institutions are supposed to pay or receive payment from negotiable instruments, such as checks, automated clearinghouse transactions, electronic funds transfers and online banking.
