Local banking allows customers to interact with bank employees as needed, make deposits and withdrawals in person or at walk-up ATMs, get receipts for transactions and access safe-deposit boxes. Physical banks use security guards and surveillance cameras for added protection. Physical banks also provide walk-up depositories outside the bank.
Customers can enter a bank and obtain rolls of coins as needed, which is something the online bank cannot provide. Online banks generally enforce strict limits on the maximum amount of checks they accept and daily limits on transactions. For example, a customer with a $6,000 check can easily and safely deposit it at the local bank branch in person, whereas the online bank may require the customer to send the check through the mail.
