Stock symbols listed by EODData are presented in alphabetical order. In addition to the symbols, basic information on the stock is provided, including the highs and lows of the day, the opening and closing price and the net and percentage change of the stock value throughout the day.

A stock symbol lookup tool for the NYSE, NASDAQ, American Stock Exchange and PSE, as well as for Over-the-Counter Bulletin Board stocks, is available from the NASDAQ website. The site also provides a list of recent changes in stock symbols, given in alphabetical order, followed by the effective date for the change.

MarketWatch provides a similar tool, allowing for a symbol search for stocks, indexes and currencies. The search is available by country and searches multiple exchanges.

Stock symbols are lettered abbreviations given to companies for ease of trading on the exchanges, as explained by Investopedia. Each exchange provides symbols based on its own formula. For example, Stocks listed on the NYSE have three letters, while those on the NASDAQ have either four or five.
