The Social Security Administration allows people to access information about their payments and accounts on its website. Users can also apply for benefits, get a statement, set up or change direct deposit information and change their address online.
Users do not have to be receiving Social Security benefits to set up an account on the website. Anyone with a Social Security Number can set up a "my Social Security" account to track earnings, estimate benefits or get a letter with proof of benefits, for those who currently receive benefits. To set up an account, users should start on the SSA home page, and click on the my Social Security icon on the left side of the page. On the next page, users click on Create an Account, and follow the instructions.
