As of March 2015, several websites provide potential homeowners a way to search properties for sale by owner, including ForSaleByOwner.com, Zillow, HomesByOwner.com, Owners.com and FSBO.com. Each website contains basic searches, followed by several parameters to narrow choices for people investigating a home for sale by owner.
Individuals enter a city, state, ZIP code or listing ID into the search on ForSaleByOwner.com. Limiters include a price range, number of bedrooms and number of bathrooms. The sliding scale of home prices narrows a search by increments of $50,000 up to $1 million. A map on the website allows people to search listings by state. Users sort listings by price, newest, square footage or year built.
Potential homebuyers input an address, neighborhood or ZIP code to search Zillow. Individuals may narrow a search by price range, price minimum, square footage and home type. Searches appear on an interactive map that allows users to zoom in, zoom out and scroll in any direction. Listings appear on the right side of the Web page, and these listings can be sorted by newest entries, price, square footage and year built.
Individuals click on an interactive map of the United States, or select a state to the right of the map, to search HomesByOwner.com. Users can also input a city, state or ZIP code into a basic search box. After choosing a statewide search, several metropolitan areas appear on a list or map. Potential homeowners choose from more than 900 metro areas to find a property.
