St. Jude's Ranch for Children started its recycling program as a way to turn the previous year's Christmas cards into "thank you" cards for the current year. Children at the ranch make new cards by removing the front cover, cropping it and attaching it to new card stock. The cards are then sold in packages of 10 for $17. The proceeds from the sale of these cards help fund the organization's programs for abused, neglected and homeless children and families.

The program is open for donations all year long and accepts any type of greeting card. It asks that the front of the card be free of writing on both sides. The organization prefers cards that are no larger than 5 inches wide and 7 inches long and cannot use cards made by Hallmark, Disney and American Greetings.

Recycled cards can be purchased from the St. Jude's Ranch website or by calling 1-877-977-7572. Several types of cards are available, including Christmas, Easter, Birthday and Thanksgiving cards, and the $17 dollar purchase price includes shipping.
