There are a number of options of receiving help preparing taxes, including the Internal Revenue Service, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program and online tax preparation software companies. The IRS provides resources on its website, as well as a telephone help line and an in-person volunteer service.
The VITA program connects people to volunteers who have training in tax-related areas. As of 2015, VITA allows people who make less than $53,000, are disabled, or who have limited English comprehension to meet with volunteers to help prepare their taxes. Tax preparation software is available online through TurboTax or H & R Block. A professional tax preparer can also be hired, but the IRS recommends researching the business before hiring them.
