Check your Social Security benefits by creating an account at the official website of the Social Security Administration. At, you can check your estimated future benefits, the status of current benefits, and the status of any claims or applications for benefits, notes the Social Security Administration.

As of 2015, you create a My Social Security account at by going to the home page and clicking on the My Social Security logo located on the left side of the page. From there, click on Create an Account, and follow the instructions to create a user ID and password. You must provide some personal information and answer some security questions in order to prove your identity. The Social Security Administration advises that it's illegal for someone to create an account on another individual's behalf, even if written permission is provided.

You can use your My Social Security account to verify yearly earnings as well as review the Medicare and Social Security taxes you have paid. You can also access statements and request benefit verification letters, notes the Social Security Administration. In addition, you can update your address, phone number and direct deposit information; order tax documents; and request replacement Medicare cards.
