Places that often have cheap or free boxes include retailers, such as grocery stores and department stores, and restaurants, such as McDonald's and Starbucks. Amazon.com and UsedCardboardBoxes.com offer boxes for sale, as of June 2015. Free boxes are also found on Craigslist.org and Freecycle.org.
Since grocery stores and department stores have many inventory shipments, they accumulate a large number of empty boxes. These boxes are thrown away or recycled anyway, so the stores don't mind giving them away to anyone who asks. Restaurants also usually have extra boxes due to food shipments. Liquor stores and bookstores typically have smaller boxes, which work well for transporting books or movies.
