Individual investors cannot purchase shares of Space Exploration Technologies Corporation, better known as SpaceX. As of October 2015, it is a privately held corporation. CEO Elon Musk says that there are no plans to offer shares to the public until flights to Mars begin, according USA Today.
Investors interested in participating in the growth of SpaceX could consider buying into companies that have invested in SpaceX. In January 2015, Google and Fidelity Investments teamed up to invest a combined $1 billion in the company, for roughly 10-percent ownership. Google is known for investing in high-tech start-up firms; Fidelity announced only that it was making the purchase for some of its mutual funds, noted CNN.
