To apply for a Medicaid card, a Texas resident needs to determine the type of Medicaid coverage he needs, explains the Texas HHSC. Residents can apply for Children's Medicaid or the Medicaid Buy-In plan for Children. There is also the option to apply for Medicaid that's available for pregnant women with low incomes, as well as a Medicaid program for breast and cervical cancer patients.
Others who qualify for Medicaid in Texas are a former foster care child, a youth transitioning into foster care, and an adult who cares for a child, according the Texas HHSC. Adult Medicaid options include benefits for long-term care, the Medicare savings program, coverage for Texas residents who receive Supplemental Security Income, and a Medicaid Buy-In for Adults program.
Before residents apply, they can first check online to determine their eligibility for specific programs. After the application is complete and submitted, residents can check the status of their application by logging in to their account, says the Texas HHSC.Learn more about Health Insurance
