After signing up for a Visa debit card a personal identification number, or PIN, is sent to the user from Visa in order to use the card. The card can then be activated online, by making a deposit, or by calling the toll-free number listed on the card’s sticker.
A way to activate the card without visiting the bank is online by using either online banking where the user can access the customer service department to activate their card, or by using her bank's mobile banking and activating the card via phone.
For those that do not have online or mobile banking, there are several other methods of card activation. The first is to make a deposit or withdrawal to the account to be activated. This can be done either at the bank or at one of the bank’s ATMs. If the account has not already been funded, or the user does not wish to make a deposit, she can also visit the bank and ask a banker to activate the card. Visa also has a toll-free number that allows users to call in to activate the card by entering the number on the card, alongside the four-digit personal identification number and security code.
