Full Answer

  1. Dial the Do Not Call Registry hot line

To add a phone number to the Do Not Call Registry list, call the hot line number, which is 1-888-382-1222 as of 2014. Call from the phone number that is to be added to the registry. The number is added immediately, but telemarketers still have 31 days to contact the number.

  2. Log on to the website

Visit the National Do Not Call Registry website at https://www.donotcall.gov to register more than one phone number. Up to three numbers may be registered at one time. An email confirmation is sent for each of the numbers registered. To complete the enrollment process, the link provided in the email must be clicked.

  3. Add cell phones and land lines

Both cell phones and land lines may be added via either enrollment option. There is no time limit to register a cell phone. Land lines used for business calls can't be added to the Do Not Call Registry, nor can fax lines. Some land lines cannot be added to the registry by calling the hot line. People who live in housing communities with a private branch exchange telephone system, such as college dorms or senior living facilities, must visit the website to add their personal number.
