As of 2015, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation funds the Gates Millennium Scholarship Program, which awards scholarships to minorities with strong academics and high financial need, according to the Gates Millennium Scholars. The scholarship provides money for unmet college expenses.
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation established the Gates Millennium Scholarship Program in 1999 with a $1 billion grant, advises the Gates Millennium Scholars. The United Negro College Fund, in partnership with the American Indian Graduate Center Scholars, the Hispanic Scholarship Fund and the Asian & Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund, administers the program. Eligible students must enroll in an accredited U.S. college or university in a full-time degree program.
