In November 2015, Plum Creek agreed to merge with Weyerhaeuser Company to create a timber and forest products company with more than 13 million acres of timberland in the United States.
Plum Creek is the ?largest private landowner in Georgia, with about 792,000 acres of forestland in 88 counties. In 2001, Plum Creek entered Georgia when it merged with the company formerly known as Georgia-Pacific. Rayonier owns or manages approximately 691,000 acres of timberland in Georgia, and its hardwood and softwood cellulose specialties plant in Jesup, Georgia, is the largest in the world. In business since 1973, Atlanta-based Scofield Timber Company provides a variety of timber services, including the harvesting of more than one million trees annually.
