In 2015, top companies that were listed as top green energy users include Intel Corporation, Microsoft Corporation, Kohl's Department Stores, Google Inc., Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., Apple Inc., city of Houston, TX, U.S. Department of Energy and Unilever, among others.

The leading sectors that consume the largest amounts of energy are the industrial and transportation sectors. Residential usage accounts for 21.7 percent of the total energy consumption in the United States. Commercial consumption is lower than other sectors, with a usage of 18 percent.
