Union Workers Credit Services has been flagged as a fraudulent company and as a collection of scam artists by the Federal Government; it is accused of selling false memberships to users for cards that do not exist. The Platinum Card offered carries no benefits for the user as the company itself operates with a baseline of extortion, racketeering and other criminal practices.
The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau filed suit against UWCS in 2014. Among the points of inquiry was the company's false self-association with unions and union workers and a manufactured identity with no basis in reality. The site used images of union workers to target union members to reap membership fees.
The card is not a general-use credit card. It cannot be used for purchases outside the company's own buying club, making it useless to almost all buyers who are then stuck paying their membership fees out of pocket. Buyers are unable to reclaim this fee through any means.
UWCS has also been charged with illegal misuse of Consumer Credit Reports. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau has accused the company of using these reports to target vulnerable individuals with ad campaigns that misrepresent its card and account benefits and are designed to do nothing but accrue membership fees.
