4-H clubs provide four programs, including science, citizenship, healthy living and mentoring. The science program provides children opportunities for hands-on learning in science, technology, engineering and math. Areas of focus include robotics, rocketry, environmental science, biotechnology and veterinary science. Students are able to explore different careers in science in the program.
The citizenship program teaches students civics and the importance of being a good citizen. It focuses on leadership, community action and communication. Students are exposed to leadership roles in government, boards of directors and community service. They are encouraged to volunteer in their communities and develop communication and artistic skills.
The healthy living program focuses on combating childhood obesity, drug use and bullying. Students learn proper nutrition and how to manage stress through activities such as cooking and yoga.
The mentoring program targets youth at risk of entering the prison population. In conjunction with the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, the program provides individual, group and peer mentors aimed at decreasing truancy, drug use and unemployment among disadvantaged youth.Learn more about Business & Finance
