General Motors offers three different credit cards as of July 2015, all issued by Capital One, according to GMCard.com. All three cards carry no annual fee and allow cardholders to accumulate rewards that can be applied towards reducing the purchase price of a new GM vehicle.
The BuyPower Card allows customers to earn a 5 percent reward on their first $5,000 of annual purchases and a 2 percent reward on any purchases beyond this limit, as GMCard.com indicates. These earnings do not expire and have no redemption limit, and the cardholder can combine the earnings with any other GM offers available at the time of purchase. However, these points cannot be combined with any employee or supplier discounts.
The Extended Family Card allows cardholders to earn a 1 percent reward on all purchases and, in lieu of applying these earnings towards a GM purchase, cardholders have the option of redeeming their rewards for cash back in increments of $50. Earnings from the Extended Family Card expire after seven years but can be applied in addition to an employee or supplier discount. They are also not subject to any redemption limits or restrictions on use with other existing GM offers.
The BuyPower Business Card earns rewards at a rate of 5 percent for purchases for parts and services from official GM dealers, 3 percent for gas station, office supply and restaurant purchases, and 1 percent for all other purchases, states GMCard.com. There are no redemption limits for these points or limitations on their use with other GM offers or employee and supplier discounts. GM also provides BuyPower Business Card users with exclusive offers.
