As of 2015, Belk offers its full-time associate employees various benefits that vary in scope depending on the option that is chosen by the individual employee. The BelkChoice Benefits program is divided into two benefit categories, Core and Choice. Belk employees are given access to Core benefits without having to pay anything out of pocket, while Choice benefits are available at an optional basis.
BelkChoice's Core benefits include basic life insurance, paid sick leave, funeral leave pay, business travel accident insurance and the employee assistance program. The program's Choice benefit options include various insurance and health plans, such as a vision plan, optional life insurance, dependent life insurance, a health care flexible spending account and long-term disability income insurance.
Employees participating in the BelkChoice program can pay any monthly dues for their optional Choice benefits through their pre-taxed salary. Payments made using pre-tax salary generally help offset the cost of additional benefits through savings in tax. All BelkChoice benefit plans typically have a three-month waiting period.
Belk also offers a limited number of benefits for all company associates employed on a part-time basis. Part-time employee eligibility for certain types of benefits, such as jury duty pay and homeowner's insurance, are determined by how many hours they have worked.
