Ownership of an American Express Centurion Card is available only to individuals with a high net worth, who spend and pay off $250,000 a year, notes The Motley Fool. The card requires an initiation fee of $7,500 and an annual fee of $2,500 per card and is offered by invitation only. Introduced in 1999, the Centurion Card is made of a heavy black Titanium as a way of signaling the cardholder's status.
Members have reportedly used the Centurion Card for very large purchases, according to Credit Card Insider. This includes $52 million spent on a private jet and $300,000 for a Bentley automobile.
The Centurion Card is frequently compared against the American Express Platinum Card, another card intended for higher net worth individuals. Many of the benefits for the Centurion Card are available with the Platinum Card, indicates The Motley Fool indicates.
