AHRI certification saves manufacturers the cost of meeting multiple federal certifications, such as those the U.S. Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency require for products that receive an Energy Star label. Because AHRI is a recognized Certification Body in the Energy Star program, AHRI-certified products can be Energy-Star-labeled without the need for any additional testing, verification or certification.
Manufacturers are able to brand certified products with the AHRI Certified mark, a registered trademark. AHRI provides a brand usage guide and specifications for mark size and placement.
AHRI publishes a standard rating methodology for air-conditioning, heating and refrigeration equipment. Any manufacturer can claim that its equipment has been rated in accordance with AHRI standards if the equipment follows the prescribed methodology. To receive certification, however, a manufacturer must complete an application for each type of equipment it produces. AHRI analyzes product specifications and issues a certification to those that meet its published standards.Learn more about Careers
