To become a Landstar owner-operator, fill out an application at the Lease To Landstar site located at LeaseToLandstar.com. There are several minimum requirements for a potential owner-operator to be eligible.
To start the Landstar owner-operator application process, click the Apply Now button on the home page. The initial page shows the information required during the application process, such as the applicant's Social Security number, home address history, driver's license number, employment history and traffic history. Criminal history and military history are also required, if applicable.
The next page provides the Owner-Operator Minimum Requirements. The applicant must be at least 23 years old and have a Class A Commercial Driver's License. In addition, the applicant cannot have had any felony convictions within the past seven years, any positive drug or alcohol tests, any suspensions of more than 30 days within the past 36 months, any DUI charges during the prior 60-month period or more than two accidents and violations within the previous 36 months. The applicant must also have English proficiency, proper insurance and one year of verified over-the-road driving within the past three years.
These are just some of the requirements to become a Landstar owner-operator as of April 2015, and Landstar may change or impose more strict requirements at any time. Qualification of operators is made by Landstar on a case-by-case basis.
