The first Bass Pro Shop was located in Springfield, Missouri, and was based in the liquor store owned by Morris' father. The store was located on the route towards Table Rock Lake and was initially stocked using premium fishing tackles specially chosen and collected by Morris, who came up with the idea for the store by identifying a shortage of fishing tackles in shops at the time.

Within 3 years of opening, Morris printed and mailed out the first catalogs for Bass Pro Shops. In 1978, the store began providing the Bass Tracker product package, which provided a boat, motor and trailer designed specifically for anglers, or those who fish with a fishing rod.

For the fiscal year ending on Dec. 31, 2013, Bass Pro Shops had a sales revenue of $4.2 billion. According to the same snapshot, the current CEO is James Hagale, and the company has 19,000 employees. Locations can be found across the United States and Canada, and the corporation operates a resort called Big Cedar Lodge in the Ozark Mountains.
