Genesis HealthCare is a provider of both long-term and short-term care to seniors. Genesis offers services such as rehabilitation, specialized Alzheimer's and dementia care, and assisted and senior living communities.
Genesis offers services to help patients recover and regain their lives after leaving the hospital. Examples of such services include transitional care, orthopedic rehabilitation, driving rehabilitation and neurorehabilitation. In addition to rehab, Genesis offers services such as pulmonary and cardiac management to help patients handle and improve their current conditions.
As well as providing a home-like environment for those requiring long-term Alzheimer's and dementia care, Genesis offers hospice care to provide comfortable surroundings for those with life-threatening illnesses.
Genesis Health Ventures was established in 1985 when Michael R. Walker acquired several health centers. Over the next 13 years, Walker grew the value of the company from $32 million to $2.4 billion with the acquisition of nursing homes and the implementation of services such as rehab therapy, diagnostic testing, therapy and pharmacy. Though the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2000, it recovered through a massive reorganization in 2001. Genesis HealthCare operates more than 500 facilities in 34 states, as of August 2015.
Genesis HealthCare is headquartered in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, and employs more than 50,000 across the country.
