Propane costs vary by location, delivery surcharges and the size of the tanks, which typically range from 100 to 1,500 gallons. The federal Energy Information Administration publication reported average costs of propane, including $2.367, $2.360 and $2.337 per gallon for each of the first three months of 2015.
In addition to the per-gallon cost of propane, many propane companies add a surcharge that ranges up to 30 cents per gallon for propane deliveries. Some reports indicate higher surcharges, such as from 50 cents per gallon to more than $1.50 per gallon. Excluding company-determined surcharges, the federal EIA collects and reports propane prices only between October and March, which is the heating season.
