Some auto mechanic certification tests are the Auto Maintenance and Light Repair Certification Test or G1, and the Automobile and Light Truck Certification Tests or A Series. Other certification tests are the Collision Repair and Refinish Certification Tests or B Series, and the Alternate Fuels Certification Test or F1.
The G1 certification test assesses mechanics' knowledge and skills needed for many common maintenance and light repair tasks, such as those involving engine systems, automatic transmissions, manual drive train systems, suspension and steering, as well as brakes, electrical systems, and heating and air conditioning. The A Series has nine certification tests, A1 to A9, which are designed for mechanics to demonstrate in-depth knowledge and skills needed for servicing, diagnosing and repairing cars, SUVs and light trucks.
The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence administers more than 40 ASE certification tests that cover every aspect of automotive repair and service. Its certification tests are also recognized in many parts of Canada.
