Register online at the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence website for the ASE certification tests. There are over 40 tests that cover cars and light trucks, medium heavy truck, collision repair, truck equipment, school and transit buses, and auto and truck parts.
The ASE website also has a listing of states in Canada and the United States where certification tests are taken. Locate the nearest center, and request the study guides. At the test time, carry the documentation showing proof of apprenticeship.
ASE certification is valid for five years. After this period, the National Institute for ASE requires technicians to take the test again to ensure they are keeping up with fresh advances in automotive technology.
