There is no way to apply for a U.S. Bank Reliacard as it is a prepaid debit card that is used by government agencies for distributing payments, says USbank.com. There is no application or credit check necessary to be eligible for a U.S. Bank ReliaCard, says the Department of Social Services. Those entitled to government payments are automatically approved for ReliaCards unless they have opted for direct deposit.
ReliaCard clients include those with child support, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, unemployment benefits and other public assistance. The cards are reloadable and are branded with a Visa or MasterCard logo. They are accepted almost anywhere to pay bills, make purchases and make withdrawals. These cards simplify the process for both the government agency and the recipient. Cardholders have benefits such as 24-hour access, bill pay, balancing alerts and mobile banking, says USBank.com.
No additional funds can be added to the card by anyone else. Cardholders cannot overdraw a ReliaCard, so it is imperative to know the balance. It is recommended that PINs are never shared to prevent theft, says the Department of Social Services. U.S. Bank is one of the leading issuers of prepaid cards and has more than 94 government agency programs, says the official bank website.
