Individuals and families can apply for MNSure during open enrollment period that starts Jan. 1, 2016, by creating an account at the MNSure website and submitting an application, says MNSure. Some people may qualify for special enrollment, and those who qualify for Medical Assistance or MinnesotaCare can apply year-round, as of 2015.
Before a person can create an account and begin an application for MNCare, he should be sure that he uses an up-to-date browser on a laptop or desktop computer, and he should not use a tablet or smartphone to create the account or apply for insurance, says MNCare. The application should be completed from start to finish on one sitting.
If a person qualifies for Medical Assistance or MinnesotaCare, he does not need to proceed to the "choose a plan" step. The plan options that are available to the applicant are mailed in the weeks following the online application, says MNCare.
It takes 24 hours for the enrollment information submitted to be logged into the MNCare system. Applicants are asked to wait 24 hours before calling MNCare's contact center with questions regarding the enrollment.
An applicant's enrollment selection is sent to his chosen insurance company, and applicants should expect to receive their insurance cards and plan information from the insurance company within 30 to 45 days. The insurance company also sends an invoice for the applicant's first premium payment, says MNCare.
