Medical coverage for low-income families and individuals is available through Medicaid, the Florida Department of Children and Family Services explains. The federal and state government contribute to the cost of the program, and the Agency for Health Care Administration in Florida administers Medicaid services. The Social Security Administration determines eligibility for those receiving Supplemental Security Income.
There are three groups that are generally eligible for Medicaid, Florida Health Finder reports. Those groups are families and children, including pregnant women; individuals receiving Supplemental Security Income; anyone who has a disability or is blind; and senior citizens.
