Parents can apply for Healthy Kids insurance online via the official Healthy Kids website. The site also provides applicants with a link to download a PDF version of the application that can be submitted via mail, fax or email. Healthy Kids is an insurance plan offered by Florida KidCare.
In order to apply for Healthy Kids, parents must have one of the following: the family's most recent income tax return, the most recent W-2, or pay stubs that cover the four weeks leading up to the application. Proof of citizenship, identification and the Social Security Number of the child to receive coverage is also required. If a Social Security card has not been received, the date that the number was applied for is required. Parents can also start an application online and resume the same application at a later date.
Healthy Kids states that, as of April 2015, applications take approximately six weeks to process. The coverage does not begin until the application has been reviewed and the child's eligibility determined. Payment for the first month's premium must also be received before coverage begins. There is not a specific deadline for Healthy Kids insurance applications, as the agency accepts and reviews applications year round.
