As of 2015, American Express customers who have access to the Travel Rewards programs have the option to use points to buy a flight and book hotels, according to American Express. Those that travel on cruise ships can use the points to book ships, too.
Users of the reward program can utilize the companys search engine to find flights, notes American Express. Once a consumer picks a flight, the customer can log into their American Express Membership Rewards account and use the reward points to cover part or all of the cost. Customers can select from some class seats including economy-class seats to first-class seats.
The site also allows consumers to use their points to pay for flight and hotel combinations. Customers only need to plan where they want to travel to get current prices, reports American Express. Once the price displays on the screen, they can now book the package using the points.
American Express customers can also use their points towards cruises to areas such as the Caribbean and Alaska, highlights American Express. The search engine also enables users to pick preferred cruise ships and travel dates. Finally, to use this program, consumers can use the program as long as their current American Express card is good standing.
