Growing Power was an organization that offered teenagers a place to work. Will Allen, the organization's founder, was a farmer with extra land that he devoted to the program.
The purpose of the Growing Power program was to give teens the opportunity to grow food for the community in a series of greenhouses on the north side of Milwaukee. Since its inception in 1993, the program has grown into a national and global initiative that offers training to everyone from young teenagers to USDA personnel and urban planners. It offers a range of training, including marketing, food distribution and urban agriculture.
