The Texas Agriculture Exemption allows land owners to have the county appraisal district assess their property to grant the status of agricultural or open space land. Different types of tax savings are available based on the valuation resulting from the official land assessment, says Texas land developer Big Sky Ranch.
The Texas Agriculture Exemption is an official method of land valuation for the purpose of tax relief. State officials can assess and categorize land for "agricultural use" or "open space," the two official categories allowing tax savings. To qualify, the land must host a range of agricultural activities such as the cultivation of fruits, vegetables and flowers or the raising of livestock, says Williamson Central Appraisal District. This assessment procedure is also called "agricultural-use valuation,” “open space valuation" or “agricultural valuation."
