To accept credit card payments, you can use PayPal Payments, Square or QuickBooks Payments from Intuit. PayPal Payments is an online service, and Square and QuickBooks Payments have online and in person payment options.
PayPal Payments comes in a free standard version and professional paid version. Both versions charge fees of 2.9 percent plus 30 cents per transaction, and both accept credit payments in 26 different currencies from 203 countries, as of 2015. PayPal Payments Pro enables customers to stay on the website throughout the entire checkout process and allows the business owner to create her own checkout experience for customers.
Square enables business owners to accept credit card payments online through an invoicing service and in person through a point-of-sale stand for the iPad or the Square Reader, a small credit card swiping device that fits in the 3.5-millimeter port on mobile devices. Each service has a fee of 2.75 percent per transaction. This service also enables business owners to build online websites and set up pre-ordering systems.
QuickBooks Payments offers online invoicing and in-person credit card payments through a device that's similar to Square's. The service charges a starting fee of 50 cents per Automated Clearing House bank transfer or 1.75 percent per credit card transaction. Business owners can also create personalized receipts to distribute to customers.
